Our mission at the Marion County Public Health Department is to help asthmatic individuals manage their condition and decrease the number of asthma attacks, visits to emergency rooms and hospitalizations in our community. We do that by ensuring people receive education and resources such as free environmental home assessments that aid in elevating asthma control.
We focus on the environmental aspect of asthma control. By helping people address and resolve triggers found in their homes, we also help them manage their condition. We hope to increase referrals so that our asthma case manager can reach more people with poorly controlled asthma.
Another part of our mission is to assist in worldwide efforts to decrease the rates of poorly controlled asthma. The Breathe Easier website helps us reach and engage with more people, giving them access to resources at their fingertips.

The Marion County Public Health Department’s Asthma Program aims to help clients control their asthma by sending a representative to your home to evaluate it for asthma triggers. We can provide educational tools and demonstrations on how to make “green” cleaning supplies that are safe and non-toxic. We also can recommend and make referrals to different resources to address issues that are found within homes such as pest control and indoor air quality.
